December 2011
Imagine a camera fitted on top of your contact lens, which is equipped with Augmented Reality, wirelessly communicating with gadgets around you and displaying all the contents over your retina, which falls in its line of sight. Are you trying to visualize it or make sense from it? Well, this is the shape of things to come soon and it sends shivers down my spine to think of all of us- nothing more than moving robots with emotions. Sorry, correction here, you can’t cry with that microchip on your eyes and most likely you will have a mobile sensor fitted in your jaws which will replace your mobile, sountimely and undisciplined laughing and displaying of emotion is prohibited. On one side we are trying to make robots that can emotionally think and on the other side convert those who can think like robots.
Getting back to the present scenario we are cruising in the last part of 2011 and the speed withwhich we have seen gadgets and tech being launched this year has been unmatched in the past decade. And this issue is dedicated to announce all the nominees from the debutants across categories, but we are leaving the winners to be decided by you. Hop on to awards.exhibitmag.com and make your vote count. Our nominees also come with a ‘Long List’ which is basically other products in each segment that we had thought of, but they were just short of some juice to make the final cut. May be you can change that and if they get more clicks than the nominees, then they make it to the short-list and could ultimately come out winner. So get the techie inside you to do some responsible voting!
This year had been memorable for few more reasons. The Buddh International Circuit, the first Formula 1 race track in India, is awarded '2011 Motorsport Facility of the Year' at the Professional Motorsport World Expo 2011, held in Cologne, Germany. That’s really something to boast about in my next meeting with my mates from US & Europe. Also, the year marked the 10th birthday of the iconic portable music player, iPod. The Birth of iPod hadchanged the entire ecosystem of how the music was played, carried and bought (iTunes)- and in the process has put Apple right in the heart of millions and raking in billions of dollars for itself.
Movies have also received a healthy dose of Tech this year, with 3D movies being launched almost every month. India’s own super-star, King Khan, came up with the highly anticipated Ra.One with some cool 3D effect incorporated throughout the movie. Tintin was another 3D enabled extravaganza – which is of course, adapted from the comics. Read about the evolution of print comics into digital, in the pages to come – something that all comic lovers will enjoy.
There are the usual regulars as well, which include – Previews, Reviews, Success Diary & plenty of news from the tech world.
Till the next year, I hope all of you strap on to your seats and not be flustered with the amount of technology being introduced in the world right now. Have this as a full course meal as we prepare for the next one soon, coming up for grabs in the happy beginnings of 1 Jan 2012.
November 2011
Sometimes it’s worthwhile to ponder how things get replaced fast in the world of tech. Now, that is a process, which is both inspiring as well as upsetting. But nothing could have made me more upsetting than the passing away of Steve Jobs— a man who can be called the tech czar and whose brilliant mind has driven his company to create great products like no one else. It’s no denying that the world doesn’t stop spinning for anyone, but the dent created by Steve’s death can never be replaced, that is for sure. This month we pay tribute in remembering the man for what he was, and his unsurpassable contribution to the tech world giving us some of the greatest gadgets starting with the smalli.
This is also a very special month for me, as Exhibit puts forward the prestigious annual list for Tech’s 100 most influential people. Like every year, this year too we have handpicked the very best names who made a difference in the world of tech and earned their spot in our list. Thanking all our readers who took the time out in polling for this power ranking.
Moving on further we have Mahindra XUV hitting the brass tracks along with Renault koleos and an insight into upcoming cars. Exhibit was also there to witness all the tech, tracks and triumph at the Indian Grand Prix. Flip over to Pg 44 for our exclusive coverage and relive the Indian Grand prix .Taking a leaf from F1 and tracing success, we roll the tires with Lamborghini in Success Diary, get to know how the company which makes speed demons was started .
Nokia World Just concluded and we were there to witness the revival of Nokia’s spirit with the launch of Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 which happens to be the very first mobiles from the Finnish makers that will run on Windows mobile platform. Could this be the new dawn for the dying sun? Find out more on Pg 60. This month we are also keen in looking into the evolution of processor in Smartphones- from trotters to dragsters.
As the year comes to and end ,I will be looking forward to the very best next month, that comes packed in our last issue of the year which will be all loaded up with the best of tech spice that’s going to tickle your senses for long. Till then Ciao.
October 2011
The biggest Prediction and Rumors starts doing the round just before Apple is about to launch its next “Avatar” and by the time you grab this copy , the curtains would have been lifted and you will know what Apple has dropped on us in the shape of iPhone 5. This Launch also has its own significance since it’s the first time Tim Cook will be doing the honours after taking over the mantle of the Cupertino company from Steve Jobs. Expect Fireworks on October 4th when the entire the entire Techworld will be waiting with bated breath. In fact the Smartphone Ecosystem is getting narrowed down to OS. Earlier- Camera, Size, Style, Battery etc. were the deciding factors. Now it starts with OS. Be it Android, iOS or any other. It’s like, first declare the [OS] -Country where you want the citizenship before choosing the city [Handset model] where you want to live. For the Geeks, we have a complete dope on the OS Scenario in the Pages to follow.
This Edition is named as ‘The Camera Issue‘ and already with festive spirits running High, chances of buying the Right Camera will top your shopping list. But the problem is, we don’t know what is a right camera with so many different styles of Photography - Underwater , Aerial, fashion, Wildlife etc. each requiring a particular type of camera and gear. It’s never going to be easy to discover the Photographer in you but you can make a serious attempt in our Camera Section and start clicking.
Another action area which is hotting up is the 3D Space, which was earlier the domain for LCD & HD TVs, but now 3D Smart phones are the latest rage and soon you will see 3D tablets which will super amplify the gaming & browsing experience. The downside is 3d will take a toll on our eyes, and why will people go to the stadium to enjoy live Cricket or F1 when they can get similar experience from the idiot box. Talking of F1, we got a chance to meet the top F1 drivers before they reach our shores at the Budh circuit in Delhi. They will be the next Tendulkars & Sehwags if things go the way like the IPL.
Our Editors have sat down for a debate about Nokia’s downward spiral, plus a closer look at the newly launched Windows 8 awaits you. Not to be left behind are our regular gadget & car reviews and previews, which will leave you wanting these tech toys for yourself this festive season. Also an engaging look at the story of Rolls Royce, the fusion of Music & Tech, gadgets to carry on treks, Yahoo’s firing of their CEO – and much much more.

September 2011
Steve Jobs resigns as CEO of Apple Inc., Google acquires Motorola, HP decides to shut down its WebOS production - as well as mulling over their PC business unit – three big news in the “tech-historic” month of August that happened within days of each other. Though we were kinda mentally prepared for the legendary Jobs to leave the most envious “job”, yet the sudden resignation shook us a bit. We just hope Apple continues to mesmerize us with its design and tech as always. Motorola finally has the muscles of Google to flex its technology arm. We have some insightful talks on all of the above in the following pages.
We have rightly named our September Issue as “Entertainment Issue” keeping in sync with the upcoming festive season where our economy changes to the “Spending Economy” of US. As such we have made the “expenditure” thing easier for the gizmo freaks with our “Best of Everything” Section where we have forked out a wider range of the Bests in Everything – starting from sound box to earphones to MP3 players to car audio system to audio systems and entertainment accessories. Tech Shopping Just got easier.
Finally the eagerly awaited F1 is all set on tracks in Indian in October. Do you know it took 14 years for India to host the first Indian Grand Prix, which is likely to earn around $170 million per annum and create employment prospects for 10,000 people? F1 & Ferrari are often synonymous! The Success Diary of Ferrari is another journey, which you can experience in the pages of this issue. In fact it’s an apt story line to be made into a full feature film and it just leaves me wondering if Holly or Bolly wood world can take up some cues from here!
That reminds me the article narrating the influence of technology in the Art, Science and Gear of Movie Making -how tech has helped in better displays, sound and camera work since the day one of movie making. More cars and many more interesting things to tempt you …all you do is flip the pages.
Get entertained…integrate tech in your lifestyle…
August 2011
Doesn’t this monotonous drizzle turn you off? Though at times monsoon is enchanting but it’s high time we saw a clear sunny sky. Moving to the August issue – it’s somewhat inclined to the different luxuries of life, which are rather noted as necessities today. To start off with, moolah is among the most sought after things in the world. For most men they want it all and want it without a streak of grey hair on their head. We have top 10 of them from the tech world who made it big and made it really quick – the Richest from Generation X! And since all rich and successful men (read “all men”) love their ride, we had a close look at some of the famous men and their hot set of wheels. Also in motorsports- discover the world of the Le Mans Grand Prix, and a sneak peek of the upcoming cars in India along with an interesting piece on the replica of Bugati Veyron.
Luxury gushes out in the lifestyle segment too when we make your eyes pop out with some really priceless watches. From Chopard to Bvlgari, these masterpieces are worth treating our eyes with. Who cares if the availability is limited and the prices are whopping high, that can’t surely stop from enjoying the beauty, right?
This month saw us dive into the world of the laptops, and observe what the brands are doing with the size of laptops. There was a time when a laptop was heavy and bulky, but now you will get to see and hear about the latest fashion fad, “Size Zero” incorporated in laptops too. And for those of you who don’t understand the terminologies involved in describing the components of a laptop, we have presented a piece which will help you make sense of it all.
Without a connected laptop to the Internet World means “You have a Ferrari without the Fuel” , and routers today plays the same role of “fuel” here to wirelessly connect to your “ferrari’ . We have a “What –When –Which” router brief guide waiting as you the flip pages.
Driving ahead, if cars and automobiles are a man’s first love, gaming too is the same at some point! The gaming industry is all flourishing and the drone is all about motion sensors and 3D and eye-ogling graphics. There are many more stunning spectrum in “games” which you ought to know including The success story of Nintendo .
I sign off leaving you relaxed with the spell of glamour and high-end technology… Enjoy luxury till we meet again…next month.
July 2011
Aren’t you enjoying the beats these raindrops are making on your rooftop? Seems like nature is in full mood of music. Well, so we are. This new issue in your hand is heavy on music - some of the best DJs of the country and the big names from the International DJ Scene…their genre of Music, Style, Gears and everything else around it. Churning out music every night and making people dance to their feet is not an easy task. You can’t be in it for the kick of the moolah, there is much more driving these DJs, it’s pure passion and love for the Console. A famous DJ mentioned to us during his Interview, “I don’t need ecstasy, I get high when I am mixing and see the excitement in the dance floor ”. Sure it’s a different kick.
Half the year has gone by, and we have already seen a plethora of new gadgets and technologies being launched over the world. Like every year, the E3 expo lived up to its hype and expectations. Medical leave is over for Steve Jobs and he wowed us with the launch of 3 new products – the new Mac OS (dubbed Lion), the iOS5 and the revolutionary iCloud which is where we put our bets on! If there is anyone who can read the future of technology, it has to be the mastermind Steve Jobs. Thanks to him that we have a new category of gadgets called “Tablets” and it continues to garner as much excitement as anticipated.
The month of June saw the official launch of RIM Playbook, HTC Flyer and Motorola Xoom in India . The hype of PlayBook launch caught wings with Salman doing the honors in a huge launch party. The other two quietly entered the market but they too are high on excellence. Happy as we may be, with these new additions, we have been observing if this new introduction of Tablets as a category has really marked a difference in people’s lives. So far, the reaction has been mixed – and some people are lapping up the Tablet mania, whereas others simply refuse to look beyond smart-phones.
Speaking of which, this month is our smartphone special. We have asked a lot of people what they really want from a smartphone, and come up with our approach to the entire ‘Smartphone dilemma’. Along-with that to complement our music issue, we are taking a closer look at high-end speakers and headphones, and all the regulars add the necessary Zing to the July edition.
Controversies and Success often come bundled together. And in the realm of Tech Companies which often have a Hydraulic Powered Elevator on the ladder of Success and it zooms fast to becomes a Billion $ Company and much to their dismay they would find controversies often following them . We pick some successful men who didn’t make it big without their share of controversies…sometimes affecting the world, and more often…not!
The way to man’s heart is through his stomach but have you ever wondered how these Fast Food Giants like KFC, McD etc started up and reached to the level of multi-billion dollar companies spanning almost every country with their universal aproach. You will be surprised with their modest and sometimes accidental beginnings, something which can become the talking point with your peers the next time you are hanging out.
And one more ‘something’ close to a man’s heart…er…not the leggy beauties we are talking about…but the passion on wheels. We drove Renault Fluence and rode BMW K1300 R on Indian roads and concluded that it’s not just style but there’s something more about them. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, we would proudly like to announce a show that has never been done before – our very own Tech Fashion Week in the coming months. So…enjoy the rain with a cup of strong coffee and …Exhibit.
